Anura Withanage -Profile

His Excellency Mr. Anura Withanage serves as the Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Lebanese Republic, with concurrent accreditation to the Syrian Arab Republic. He brings to his diplomatic role extensive international experience in public administration, financial leadership, governance, and economic management across the public, private, and community sectors in Sri Lanka and Canada.

Ambassador Withanage holds a Master of Science degree from the University of Edinburgh - UK, a Postgraduate Diploma in Devolution and Local Government from the University of Colombo, and Executive CMA qualifications through Simon Fraser University and the CMA BC Chapter, Canada. He is also a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Canada.

Prior to his diplomatic appointment, he held senior leadership and executive finance positions with the Governments of British Columbia and Yukon, major international banking institutions including Royal Bank of Canada and HSBC Bank Canada, as well as senior management roles in the community sector. His professional experience encompasses public financial management, governance, strategic planning, institutional leadership, and international engagement.

As Ambassador, he is committed to further strengthening the longstanding friendly relations between Sri Lanka and Lebanon and advancing cooperation with Lebanon and Syria in the areas of economic diplomacy, trade, investment, tourism, and people-to-people engagement, while promoting the welfare and well being of Sri Lankan nationals in the region.
